1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, for the time for a Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, visited on June 4 and 5 Cuba, a country that the ROK has no diplomatic relations with, to attend a Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). On the occasion, he met with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez of Cuba, the host of the ACS Summit.

° Minister Rodriguez welcomed Minister Yun to Cuba, and Minister Yun extended congratulations to Cuba on successfully hosting the ACS Summit as its chair.

° Minister Yun voiced hope that the ACS Summit will serve as an opportunity for the ROK and the ACS to enhance their partnership, adding that, to this end, the ROK is mulling over ways to contribute to the Cuba-led “cooperation project designed to address climate change in the Caribbean.” Minister Rodriguez responded that Cuba harbors high hopes for cooperation with the ROK on climate change and sustainable development, the major agenda items of the ACS Summit, and expressed gratitude to the ROK for its willingness to contribute in this regard.

2. The two Foreign Ministers engaged in a serious and candid discussion on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual concern in a friendly atmosphere. Minister Yun extended appreciation to the Cuban government for its deep thoughtfulness and hospitality toward the ROK delegation.
