1. An honorary consulate of the Republic of Korea opened in Marrakesh, Morocco, on October 28. The consulate, headed by honorary consul Abdelaziz Cherkaou, former leader of the foreign relations committee of lower house of the Moroccan parliament, will exercise consular jurisdiction over three provinces in central Morocco.

2. In view of the increase in the number of Korean travelers; the robust presence of Korean plant construction companies; and the long-standing Korean community in Morocco, the ROK government established the honorary consulate to better protect the ROK nationals in and boost exchanges and cooperation with the country.

3. The ROK’s honorary consulate in Marrakesh is expected to contribute to efforts to better protect the ROK nationals in Morocco and to promote friendship and cooperation in various sectors with the country.
